Generic Benace, an ACE inhibitor has the active component of benazepril hydrochloride which is a white to off-white crystalline powder. It is water-soluble (>100 mg/mL) also solvable in ethanol, and in methanol. The generic name of the drug is benazepril. Benazepril Hydrochloride Tablets are offered with 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg of Benazepril hydrochloride for oral administration. It holds inactive ingredients such as pregelatinized corn starch, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, lactose anhydrous, microcrystalline cellulose, and talc.

Drug Indications

Generic Benace is angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors, also known as ACE inhibitors. This medication is applied to lower high blood pressure.


Take benazepril only as approved by your doctor. Take the drug with a full glass of water. You may take it with or without food. You must not end taking it unless told by your doctor since an unexpected stop in the dosage may worsen your condition.

Drug Interactions

There are lists of drugs that your doctor may deny to use with Generic Benace. Hence you must notify your doctor BEFORE taking benazepril if you are taking any of the drugs such as lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith, others), salt substitutes that has potassium; a potassium supplement for example Klor-Con, K-Dur, and others; amiloride (Midamor), spironolactone (Aldactone); any of the diuretics (water pills) triamterene (Maxzide, Dyrenium, Dyazide), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, HydroDiuril, others), bumetanide (Bumex), furosemide (Lasix), indapamide (Lozol), and others.

If you are using any such drugs your doctor may recommend a dosage adjustment, or special checking during treatment.

Apart from the above drugs, there may be other drugs that cause interaction with benazepril. Seek advice from your physician before using any prescription or over-the-counter drugs together with minerals, vitamins, and herbal products.

Side Effects

Use of Generic Benace may lead to many serious side effects. Some of these side effects may take in an irregular heartbeat or changes in your heartbeat; an allergic reaction (closing of your throat; difficulty breathing; swelling of your lips, or face; tongue, or hives); chest pain; severe dizziness or fainting; or symptoms of an infection such as a sore throat or a fever.

Bring to an end taking benazepril and seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following. There are also some less serious side effects that may arise by using this drug such as headache; dry, tickling cough; mild dizziness or lightheadedness; anxiety or depression; fatigue; numbness or tingling in the hands, arms, feet, or legs; nausea or constipation; itching, rash, or increased sweating or taste disturbances.

Warnings & Precautions

Notify your doctor before taking benazepril if you have scleroderma or lupus, kidney disease; are on a salt-restricted diet, high levels of potassium in your blood. Also acquaint with your doctor if you are taking salt substitutes, potassium supplements (such as, K-Dur, Klor-Con), or potassium-sparing diuretics such as triamterene (Dyrenium, Maxzide, Dyazide), amiloride (Midamor), or spironolactone (Aldactone).

Tell your doctor if you have an allergic reaction before taking benazepril. Consult doctor if you grow any harsh allergic reaction while using these tablets.

Benazepril may give rise to drowsiness or dizziness. If you are taking this drug, apply caution while operating machinery, driving, or performing other hazardous activities. Do not take alcohol with it.

Intake ample fluid when taking benazepril as it may cause heavy sweating, diarrhea, vomiting, or other causes of fluid loss.

Drug Contraindications

Generic Benace is contraindicated in pregnant patient. It also should not be administered to them who have known hypersensitivity to the drug's element.
