Generic Garamycin is an antibiotic medicine. The key component of this drug is Gentamicin. This solution is used for treatment of infections like conjunctivitis (pinkeye) and other eye infections.

Contraindication

Garamycin is contraindicated in patients having sensitivity to or an allergic reaction to Garamycin or certain other antibiotics, like Tobrex. It is necessary to inform your doctor if any drug reactions you have experienced.

Dosage

Both adults and children can use1 or 2 drops of Garamycin Ophthalmic Solution into the affected eye every 4 hours. In severe infections, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 2 drops once every hour.

Administration

Garamycin Ophthalmic should be used accurately as it has been prescribed. Before applying eye drops to your eyes, wash your hands comprehensively. Then you have to smoothly drag your lower eyelid down to figure a pocket between your eye and the lid. After that the eyedrop bottle has to be supported on your forehead or on the bridge of your nose.

You should be careful that the applicator tip doesn't touch your eye or any other surface.
Shut your eyes soothingly and continue closing them for a minute or two.
Do not clean the dropper.
In case you are using a second type of eyedrop, maintain an interval of 5 to 10 minutes between each drug.

Miss Dose

If this solution is being used regularly and you seem to miss any dose, it is advised to apply the miss dose immediate possible. But it should not be used in case; it is around time for your next regularly scheduled dose. More use of this eye drop is contraindicated.

Overdose

Actually an overdose has been rarely reported. In case you have used the drug in larger amount, clean the eye with water and seek immediate medical attention. If you have consumed the drops or ointment, intake ample water and call doctor.

Side Effects

Use of the eye drops may rarely bring eye irritation associated with redness, itching, and swelling.

Drug Interactions

There have been no interactions found by using this drug. No special recommendations have been given for using Garamycin. The patient must inform his doctor if she is pregnant or has planning to become pregnant.

Special warnings

Garamycin Ophthalmic is used for a long time. It may cause growth of bacteria or fungi that do not react to this drug. As a result a second infection can occur. If you experience any second infection, consult with your doctor.

Caution is most needed while driving, using machinery, or doing other risky activities. The patient may suffer from blurred vision by using Gentamicin ophthalmic. If such occurs, keep away from these actions.

Some people wear contact lenses. If you are using it, you should talk to your doctor before using them treatment. After making use of this medicine, allow at least 15 minutes of interval before inserting contact lenses or as instructed by your physician.

It is advised not to use other eye drops while being treated with Gentamicin ophthalmic unless otherwise told by your physician.
