Introduction

Inderal is a synthetic beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent. The active component of this drug is propranolol hydrochloride, a stable, white, crystalline solid which. It is water soluble as well as ethanol soluble. This drug is offered as 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg, and 80 mg tablets for oral use.

The inactive components in this medicine are: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and stearic acid. Besides, Inderal 10 mg and 80 mg Tablets has FD&C Yellow No. 6 and D&C Yellow No. 10. The Inderal 20 mg Tablets has FD&C Blue No. 1.

Drug Indications

Generic Inderal treats high blood pressure. It comes together with a beta blocker with a thiazide diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide). Beta blockers reduce the strength and speed of heart contractions, consequently lowering blood pressure. Diuretics lower blood pressure by producing and eliminating more urine.

Dosage & Administration

Hypertension

A 40 mg Inderal twice daily has been recommended as the common initial dosage no matter whether used alone or added to a diuretic. It may be increased slowly. For maintenance dosage, 120 mg to 240 mg per day has been approved.

Angina Pectoris

Total daily doses range between 80 mg to 320 mg Propranolol. They can be administered twice a day, three times a day, or four times a day.

Atrial Fibrillation

A dose of 10 mg to 30 mg has been recommended three or four times daily before meals and at bedtime.

Myocardial Infarction

Patient can take an early dose of 40 mg t.i.d., with titration after 1 month to 60 mg to 80 mg t.i.d. Dosage from 180 mg to 240 mg has been recommended as daily dosage Inderal per day in divided doses.

For other disease the dose will be different. Consult your doctor to know the right dose for you.

Side Effects

Using Inderal may occasionally cause side effects. Some adverse effects caused by this drug are allergic reactions, congestive heart failure, blood disorders, inflammation of the pancreas, light-headedness, depression, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, nausea, vomiting. If you experience any of the above adverse reaction while on this treatment, inform your health care professional soon possible.

Drug Interactions

Since this drug may create many unwanted health problems, tell your health care provider before taking any of the following drugs: ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone), Aluminum hydroxide gel, Alcohol, Cimetidine, Antipyrine, Calcium-blocking blood pressure drugs such as nifedipine, diltiazem, and verapamil, Chlorpromazine, Certain blood pressure medications such as reserpine, Digitalis, Corticosteroids such as prednisone, Phenobarbitone, Epinephrine, Insulin, Haloperidol, Lidocaine and many others.

Precautions

Don't stop taking the drug suddenly. It may lead to chest pain and even heart attack. If you have asthma, or kidney or liver disease, seasonal allergies, other bronchial conditions, apply Propranolol hydrochloride) with caution.

Use of the drug may disguise the symptoms of low blood sugar or alter blood sugar levels. Patients having diabetes must consult their doctor. Patients with a history of allergies or bronchial asthma may develop an allergic reaction to Inderide.

Storage

Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container, protected from moisture, freezing, and excessive heat.
