Generic Kerlone is a beta blocker applied for the treatment of glaucoma. It is used for treatment of ocular hypertension; lowering IOP; chronic open-angle glaucoma. This drug is a competitive, beta (1)-selective (cardioselective) adrenergic opponent.

Contraindication

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to betaxolol or any constituent of the preparation; heart block greater than first-degree (excluding in patients with a working artificial pacemaker); sinus bradycardia; cardiogenic shock; pulmonary edema; uncompensated cardiac failure; pregnancy (2nd or 3rd trimester).

Dosage and Administration


To treat glaucoma in adults, 1 to 2 drops of Ophthalmic should be applied twice daily in affected eye(s). Concomitant treatment can be considered if IOP is not at suitable level.

Kerlone Ophthalmic should be used accurately as it has been prescribed. Before applying eye drops to your eyes, wash your hands comprehensively. Then you have to smoothly drag your lower eyelid down to figure a pocket between your eye and the lid. After that the eye drop bottle has to be supported on your forehead or on the bridge of your nose.

You should be careful that the applicator tip doesn't touch your eye or any other surface.
Shut your eyes soothingly and continue closing them for a minute or two.
Do not clean the dropper.
In case you are using a second type of eye drop, maintain an interval of 5 to 10 minutes between each drug.

Miss Dose

If this eye drop is being used on a regular basis and you appear to miss any dose, you should apply the miss dose instant possible. But avoid its use in case; it is around time for your next regularly scheduled dose. More use of this eye drop is contraindicated.

Overdose

Essentially an overdose has been hardly ever reported. If you have used the drug in larger amount, clean the eye with water and seek immediate medical attention. If you have used the drops or ointment, intake ample water and call doctor.

Side Effects

This eye drops from time to time may cause eye irritation along with redness, itching, and swelling. The patient may also experience achy eyes; burning stinging eyes; blurry vision; headaches and watery eyes etc.

Drug Interactions

No interactions have been found with this drug. No special recommendations have been given for using Kerlone. The patient must inform his doctor if she is pregnant or has planning to become pregnant.

Special warnings

Kerlone Ophthalmic may cause development of bacteria or fungi that do not respond to this medicine. Consequently a second infection can come about. If you develop any second infection, seek advice from your doctor.

Carefulness is most wanted while driving, using machinery, or doing other hazardous activities. The patient may experience blurred vision by using Kerlone ophthalmic. If such happens, avoid these actions.

A number of people wear contact lenses. If you are making use of it, you should speak to your physician before using them. After making use of this eye drops, let at least 15 minutes of interval before using contact lenses or use as suggested by your physician.

Avoid using other eye drops while being treated with Kerlone ophthalmic unless otherwise told by your medical doctor.
