Description:

Generic Lidocaine, Lignocaine 5% cream is given as pain relief. It contains a local anesthetic agent and it is usually administered topically. It is comprised of an adhesive material containing 5% lidocaine and chemically designated as acetamide, 2-(diethylamino)- N- (2, 6- dimethylphenyl)-, and has an octanol: water partition ratio of 43 at pH 7.4. It is applied to a non-woven polyester felt backing and is covered with a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film release liner. It is used to treat inflammatory and to numb the skin in a particular area of the body.

Indications:

Lidocaine is indicated for the treatment as a pain relief, which is associated with post-herpetic neuralgia and it should be applied on skin only.

It is also given as an anesthetic lubricant for the temporary pain relief, which is associated with minor burns like sunburn, abrasions of the skin, and insect bites.

Mechanisms of Action:

Effecting local anesthetic action, this medication stabilizes the neuronal membrane and inhibits the ionic fluxes that required for the initiation and conduction of impulses. It is metabolized by the liver and the drug that cannot be changed is excreted by the kidneys.

Dosage and Administration:

The suggested dose of this medication is differed from patients to patients, but it can be used the smallest amount of Lidocaine to control your symptoms. It should not be exceeded 20 grams of a total maximum dose for a 24 hour period.

It should be applied directly on skin to cover the most painful area. You can apply the smallest amount of the cream up to three patches, only once for up to 12 hours within a 24-hour interval you can wear a cloth to cover the area of application. It is better if you clean the affected area well before application.

If it becomes irritating on the affected area remove it as soon as possible and do not reapply until your doctor says to do. And tell everything that you experience when you receive it.

It is also suggested to follow the directions provided by your doctor. Do not contact with your eyes and if happen rinse it thoroughly and immediately contact doctor and after application wash your hand properly.

Contraindications:

This medicine is contraindicated in patients who have a known history of hypersensitivity to any local anesthetics or any components of the product.

Precautions:

It is far better to tell your doctor if you have any kinds of allergic to any medicines or have any medical problems like severe broken or inflamed skin, burns, or open wounds at the place of application.

Side effects:

You may experience some side effects like blisters, bruising, burning sensation, dermatitis, discoloration, edema, erythema, exfoliation, irritation, etc. also it may develop allergic and anaphylactoid reactions associated with lidocaine characterized by angioedema, bronchospasm, dermatitis, dyspnea, hypersensitivity, shock, and urticaria.

Storage:

It should be stored at a safer place so that children also cannot reach at all.
