Generic Rapamune, Sirolimus pills belongs to a group of an immunosuppressive agent. It is a macrocyclic lactone formed by Streptomyces hygroscopicus. It is offered as an oral solution having 1 mg/mL sirolimus, also as a triangular-shaped tablet including 0.5 mg sirolimus.

Drug Indications

Generic Rapamune is applied to prevent the rejection of transplanted organs (e.g., kidney transplant) in the body. It works by lowering the body's immune system. The immune system fights infections in your body and "reject" a transplanted organ such as a liver or kidney. It is due to the immune system that treats the new organ as an attacker. This medication by lowering immune system helps to prevent your body from rejecting a transplanted kidney. This drug is sometimes used combined with cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral) and a steroid drug for example prednisone.

Dosage & Administration

Take the pill by mouth usually once daily with a full glass of water, as approved by your doctor. The dosage may differ depending on your medical condition and response to treatment. It should not be taken in larger amounts, or for longer than recommended by your doctor.

This tablet can be used with or without food. Take it at the same time everyday. Your doctor may prescribe other medications (e.g., antibiotics, immunosuppressants) to prevent infection and rejection of the transplanted organ. Take them just as prescribed by your doctor.

If you unknowingly miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. But don't apply more to make up miss doses. If you happen to use too much of this topical, call a poison control center or emergency room at once.

Tell him if you have allergy to this drug, high cholesterol or triglycerides; kidney disease, cytomegalovirus (CMV); or liver disease.
