Description:

Xylocaine ointment is a local anesthetic medication used as a pain relief. It works well by blocking the nerve signals in the body and it is prescribed to reduce pain caused y any kinds of skin irritation, including sunburn, insect bites, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, and minor cuts, scratches, hemorrhoids, and other burns.

Indications:

Xylocaine ointment is given for the treatment to relieve pain from minor burns, and other skin related irritation like sunburn, insect bites, and nettle rash and sore nipples. It is also given to prevent pain and discomfort and act as a lubricant during medical procedures and tests. In addition, it prevents pain during scaling or injection and when fitting dentures.

Classifications of drug:

This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as local anaesthetic. It helps to make the pan nerves unable to pass messages to the brain. But it should be used only when your doctor prescribed for you and you should to be very careful while handling.

Mechanisms of Action:

It stabilizes the neuronal membrane and inhibits the ionic fluxes that required for the initiation and conduction of impulses effecting local anaesthetic action. It is ineffective when applied to intake skin. It may also effect on excitable membranes in the brain and myocardium.

Dosage and Administration:

This medication is used for temporary relief of pain associated that causes by minor burns and abrasions of the skin like sunburn, herpes zoster and labialis, pruritus, sore nipples, insect bites. etc. It should be taken by following all directions given by your doctor, your nearest pharmacist. It is not addictive, but you should to be very careful while handling the medicine.

Contraindications:

This medication is quite contraindicated in patients who have a known history of hypersensitivity to local anesthetic of the amide type or any other ingredients that are used while making this medicine. So, tell your doctor if you have any kinds of allergic reactions with any kinds of drug.

Side Effects:

All medicines have their own side effects. Likewise this medicine has its own side effects so, without any prescriptions do not used.
