Introduction:

The anticoagulant Reviparin is a highly sulfated glycosaminoglycan and has the highest negative charge density of any known biological molecule. It is generally used as an injectable anticoagulant and prevents the formation of clots and extension of existing clots within the blood. Though Reviparin allows clotlysis mechanisms of the body to work normally to break down clots that have already formed but it never breaks down clots that have already formed. The drug is available under prescription, carrying the brand name of Generic Clivarin, in the form of injections.

Indication:

Generic Clivarin injections are indicated for anticoagulant therapy in treating prophylaxis and venous thrombosis and its extension, for preventing the post-operative deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and for preventing clotting during arterial and cardiac surgery.

Mechanism of Action:

The mechanism of action of Reviparin Injection is dependent on antithrombin. By antithrombin, it accelerates the rate of the neutralization of certain activated coagulation factors. The acceleration may be the out come of other mechanisms other than the antithrombin. The anti-thrombin effect of the drug leads to inhibition of factor Xa. Antithrombin III, prothrombin and factor X are interactive with Generic Clivarin. The drug potentiates the inhibition of coagulation factors and the catalyst Xa catalyzes the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and finally leads to prevention of fibrin clot formation.

Dosage And Administration:

Generic Clivarin injections should be taken only under strict supervision of an experienced medical professional. These should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor. The best dosage can be advised by your doctor. Never take this medication for longer time than what it was prescribed for you by your doctor.

Side Effects:

The serious side effects of Reviparin Injection are watery eyes, sudden numbness especially on one side of the body or weakness, chills, sudden headache, runny nose, trouble breathing or fever, confusion, pain or swelling in one or both legs and problems with vision. The side effects of Reviparin, which are seen with less severity, are mild pain, redness, warmth, or skin changes where the medicine was injected, bluish-colored skin and mild itching of your feet.

Side effects of this drug may be anything else than stated, so on experiencing any unusual health problem, a consultation with your doctor about the same is advisable.

Drug interaction:

Generic Clivarin, with oral anticoagulants, may prolong the one-stage prothrombin time. So, it should be carefully administered with other oral anticoagulants. Patients consuming acetylsalicylic acid, dextran, phenylbutazone, ibuprofen, indomethacin, dipyridamole, hydroxychloroquine, should be carfully administered with Generic Clivarin as it induces bleeding.

There are few drugs that counteract with anticoagulant effect of Reviparin Injection. They are digitalis, tetracyclines, nicotine, or antihistamines. Because doxorubicin, droperidol, ciprofloxacin, or mitoxantrone are incompatible with the drug, the injection should not be mixed with these drugs. There is a possibility for the formation of a precipitate of the mixture, if done.

Drug Contraindication :

Generic Clivarin should not be administered to patients with severe thrombocytopenia or who cannot be performed at appropriate intervals for suitable blood coagulation tests. Patients with uncontrollable active bleeding state should not be administered with the drug.
