Generic Myidone (Primidone) is an anticonvulsant. Its ingredient, Primidone is a white crystalline powder. It contains no acidic properties, in contradiction of its barbiturate analog. The inactive ingredients in this drug include lactose monohydrate, methyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, purified water, sodium starch glycolate, sodium lauryl sulphate, and talc.

Indication

Primidone is used to treat and prevent seizures. This drug is used alone or with other drugs. It declines nerve impulses in the nervous system, which helps to decrease seizures.

Contraindication

Generic Myidone is contraindicated in patients with allergic to any ingredient in Primidone or to phenobarbital. This drug also should not be applied in patients having blood disease porphyria or those who take sodium oxybate (GHB).

Dosage and Administration

For people 8 years of age and older who have not been treated before, the starting dose is 100 to 125 milligrams at bedtime from Days 1 to 3. From days 4 to 6, it is 100 to 125 milligrams 2 times a day. The dose is 100 to 125 milligrams 3 times a day from days 7 to 9. And from day 10 to maintenance, 250 milligrams 3 times a day is approved.

For children under age 8, the dose is different and lower. The doctor will determine the suitable dose or them.

Use Primidone as instructed by your physician. Follow the label on the drug for exact dosing information.

You may receive it with or without food. Take it with food to decrease stomach irritation.

Use the drug on a regular timetable. You must not abruptly stop taking this medication. Avoid discontinuing taking it even if you feel fine.

Drug Interaction

There are several drugs that can cause severe drug interactions such as stiripentol, or valproic acid, anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), Sodium oxybate (GHB), clozapine, corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), doxycycline, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), estrogen, metronidazole, quinidine, oral contraceptives (eg, birth control pills), or theophylline. Notify your health care professional if you are taking any other medicines.

Side Effects

Side effects caused by Myidone are usually minor. The most general side effects include nausea; dizziness; lightheadedness; drowsiness; loss of appetite; vomiting.

Some of these severe side effects may also cause, such as, decreased sexual ability; severe allergic reactions (rash; itching; hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the mouth, tightness in the chest); double vision or unusual eye movements; fever; unusual tiredness, mood or mental changes; or weakness.

Drug Interactions

There are lists of drugs that may interact with this drug. If these drugs are applied collectively, it may bring about increase, decrease, or alteration of effects. Notify your doctor before combining this medication with any of the following: antidepressants called MAO inhibitors, doxycycline, blood-thinning drugs such as warfarin, Estrogen-containing oral contraceptives, and Steroid drugs such as dexamethasone, Griseofulvin, and alcoholic beverages.

Precaution

This drug is not for patients having allergic to primidone or phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton), or porphyria.

Before taking this medicine, you must notify your doctor about this or if you are to born child or breast-feeding.

Make regular check up if you have thoughts about suicide while taking this drug. Your physician will need to make sure you at regular visits.

Contact your physician at once if you grow any new or worsen conditions like depression, mood or behavior changes, anxiety, or hostile, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), or thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself. Keep using the drug even if you feel well. Conduct your blood test on a regular basis.

You should not modify your dose of primidone devoid of your doctor's counsel.

Inform any doctor, dentist, or emergency medical care provider who treats you that you are using a seizure drug.
