Drug Description

Generic Persantin is a platelet inhibitor. The generic name of the drug is Dipyridamole. It is intensely yellow crystalline powder or needles. It is offered by prescription only. Each of these tablets for oral administration holds 25 mg or 50 mg or 75 mg of Dipyridamole. The inactive ingredients in this drug are hypromellose, corn starch, iron oxide yellow, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide and povidone.


Persantin is used to prevent blood clots in patients who have had heart valve replacements. It lessens the risk of impediments. It boosts blood flow to the heart. It is pursued with the thallium test.

Dosing and Administration

The usual dose is 75 to 100 mg four times daily as an accessory to the usual warfarin treatment. Don’t take aspirin concomitantly with coumarin anticoagulants. Take this tablet by mouth with a full glass of water. Read the guidelines on the prescription label. This drug should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after food. Take it at the same time always. Keep away from discontinuing the drug without consulting health care provider. Children may need special caution for this treatment.

Precaution after Using Persantin

Make regular checks to ensure about your progress. Test your heart rate and blood pressure regularly while you are on this treatment. Keep away from driving, using machinery, or doing anything that requires mental attentiveness as it may cause drowsiness or dizziness. You should not stand or sit up swiftly, mostly if you are an older patient. It decreases the risk of dizziness or fainting spells. You must keep away from alcoholic drinks. Confer with your doctor before you take non-prescribed pain relievers. Do not take aspirin and aspirin-containing products. If you need surgery for other problems, tell your doctor that you are taking this drug.


In case you have consumed overdose, make contact with your local poison control center without delay. Some symptoms caused by overdose may incorporate bruising and unusual bleeding.

Missed Dose

If you seem to miss a dose, take it immediately you remember. But you should not take double dose to make up the missed dose.

Drug Interaction

Certain drugs have been denied to take together such as theophyllines (eg, aminophylline), anticholinesterases (eg, pyridostigmine) and Adenosine. You need to inform your doctor about all the medicines, alcohol, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you are using.

Side Effects

Use of this drug may lead to some serious adverse reactions. These are chest pain, tightness; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat, itching or hives, skin rash, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue. These conditions should be treated without delay. There are also some minor side effects caused by this drug such as diarrhea, headache, flushing, skin rash, stomach ache or cramps.
