Description :

Generic Zometa, ZOLDRIA INJ (Zoledronic Acid) is in an injectable form and each vial contains Zoledronic acid monohydrate which is equivalent to Zoledronic acid anhydrous 4 mg as sterile freeze dried powder for reconstitution with 5ml of Sterile Water for Injection IP. This Zoledronic acid belongs to a class of drugs called bisphosphonates and works as a reducing agent of calcium released from the bones into the blood. It is given as a treatment for high blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia) which may associate with cancer.

ZOLDRIA is a prescription drug and should be used with proper medical guidance and advice.

Indication:

Generic Zometa, ZOLDRIA INJ is indicated to treat the high blood levels which come with cancer. And it is also indicated to treat multiple myeloma and bone metastases of solid tumors.

Mechanism of Action:

ZOLDRIA INJ (Zoledronic) belongs to a type of drugs called bisphosphonates. It works as a reducing agent of calcium that is released from the bones into the blood and helps in lowering the blood calcium level. It is also worked in the body by decreasing the breakdown of the bone and increasing the bone density.

Drug Interaction:

This medicine is interacted with bumetanide or furosemide, aminoglycoside antibiotics like Gentamicin, tobramycin as they can lead to hypocalcaemia when administered together. It is also interacted with mineral supplements like calcium, magnesium or phosphorus. And when administered with nephrotoxic agents serious risk of renal dysfunction may happen. Therefore, it is suggested not to take this medicine without prescriptions. Also before treatment with this mediation tell your doctor about the prescription and non-prescription drugs if you are taking and had been taken.

Contra-indications:

ZOLDRIA INJ is contraindicated in patients who have known hypersensitivity to this product and its components or other biphosphonates.

Caution also should be taken if you are pregnant or plan to have a baby or even if you are a breast-feeding mother because of the potential risk to the fetus and the child.

Dosage and Administrations:

The dosage and Administration is based upon the medical conditions of the patients. Otherwise, the maximum suggested dose of this medicine in patients having hypercalcemia of malignancy is 4 mg and it must be given as a single-dose intravenous infusion over no less than 15 minutes. However, it is recommended to follow your doctor's instruction because of the probable risk of deterioration in renal function.

Moreover, this medicine should be taken regularly and overdosing is highly prohibited because overdosage may lead dizziness; decreased urination; fast, pounding or irregular heartbeat; mental or mood changes; muscle cramps; numbness or tingling, (especially around the mouth), fever, muscle weakness, depression, difficulty walking, seizures, confusion, shortness of breath, sudden tightening of muscles, numbness, or tingling in fingers or toes; double vision & difficulty in speaking.

Side effects:

The common side effects associated with this medicine are severe allergic reactions such as nausea, vomiting, irritation or swelling at the injection site, fever, chills , rash, itching, dizziness, headache, weakness, tiredness, trouble sleeping, shortness of breath, burning or painful urination, mood changes (agitation, anxiety, confusion), swelling of the legs or mouth, vision problems (conjunctivitis), seizures, stupor, ankles, or hands, jaw tightness, electrolyte disturbances, anaemia, dyspnea, chest pain, cough, excessive sweating, hypertension, and muscle and joint aches or pains etc.
